Poppy

Two years ago I dug up some poppies that were growing at my mothers. She had had the same type of poppies as long as I can remember. Well I got them home and didn't plant them right away and they died. So I dumped the pots at the edge of the woods. Last year I was surprised to see that there was a poppy plant there and when it bloomed like my mothers I was really surprised. Now this year there are several plants with several buds/blooms. My mother was at the house this weekend and loved them planted at the edge of the woods. A happy ending to the story.

I'm so jealous! I just can't seem to grow poppies. :-(

I love Poppy stories. They are such shameless plants ... loving to grow with abandon. This year, I've discovered one growing and I definitely did not plant it... probably its appearance is courtesy of the squirrels.

It is a lovely colour.

Poppies are awesome. I probably have thousands of them in the garden and I know that I should thin some out but I can't bring myself to do it.

Last year I had a bunch of Allium seeds I thought were duds so I through the soil in the garden and was surprised to find all the seedlings this year.

Sorry Kylee, I can feel your pain. there are things I can't get to grow.

Kate - Thanks I guess squirrels are good for something other than eating my tomatoes!

Thumb - poppies are great. I have a chinese poppy that comes back year after year never fail. Allium are good also.

I love surprises like that. When I first moved into my house, I tossed some pieces of daylily root under my porch, and not only did they grow, but the plants are "scooting" closer and closer to the main garden area every year-kind of crawling out from under the porch!
