Poppy

Two years ago I dug up some poppies that were growing at my mothers. She had had the same type of poppies as long as I can remember. Well I got them home and didn't plant them right away and they died. So I dumped the pots at the edge of the woods. Last year I was surprised to see that there was a poppy plant there and when it bloomed like my mothers I was really surprised. Now this year there are several plants with several buds/blooms. My mother was at the house this weekend and loved them planted at the edge of the woods. A happy ending to the story.

Things blooming

Here are some of the first things blooming in the garden. I know I can always count on the Dianthis to bloom, what a great cool weather plant. Oh and of course the Iris. I will have to divide them this year. OK here is the test what is the first pic of? Here are a couple of hints. My mother never let hers go to seed in the garden but then it was picked and eaten. Can't do that since we are on a low carb diet. Don't ask me why about the diet!!!!

2nd set of garden pic's

As you can see the garden is coming along. Even after the couple days of below freezing and near freezing temperature it is coming back. The roses took the biggest hit(pic with the bird bath). I had Scott trim them off last weekend a few inches from the ground. A lot of the canes that survived the winter froze this spring when we had the below freezing temperature. I guess since they had started to grow the stems were tender and were killed easier by the cold.
.
I was hoping the garden and my work in the garden would be further along. I have some VIP people coming on May5th. That would be my mother and a couple of her old lady friends. At least I will be on vacation next week to whip things in shape.

1st set of garden pic's

Here are pictures of how the gardens look now. In the next 2-3 weeks I will be add pictures on how the garden looks then. A few weeks later more pictures and continue doing this progression through summer and into fall. Tonight we went out and I took pictures and Scott wrote down where I would need to stand next time. This way I could get the same view each time and how it changes. I took about 20 pictures and it is hard to decide which ones would be the best. I have limited it to 5 which will give the best over all view of the gardens.
